Hello everyone! Today I’m interviewing with Emma! Emma is an amazing girl who loves coding and Quentin Tarantino 🙂 Quentin Tarantino movies are the best movies I ever saw! So I hope you enjoy reading Emma’s journey 🙂 You can find her socials at the end of the interview 🙂 Enjoy it!
1)Could you tell us a little bit about yourself? ☺
My name is Emma and I am from a small student town called Uppsala in Sweden. I am currently studying my first year of my master degree in Information Technology at the University of Melbourne in Australia. I love programming, Quentin Tarantino movies and dogs!
2) How did it all start for you?
I actually started out studying physics but by a stroke of luck I had a programming course in Java my second year. Just after one lesson I decided I had to switch fields haha! It was the most fun I’d had since I started uni. I just love how creative programming is and how you can solve a problem in so many different ways.
3) How do you keep yourself motivated?
I try to achieve small goals one step at a time. If you always feel like you’re taking a step forward, even if it’s a small one, I think it’s easier to stay motivated 🙂
4) Could you tell us how is your regular day looks like?
Since I am studying now every day is very different from the other! But on a normal day I go to classes and workshops at uni. Outside of class I usually work on assignments and code tutorials. Right now I am learning android development! Then after school I meet up with friends for dinner or drinks 🙂 (or both)
5) Where do you see yourself after ten years and what do you want to achieve in ten years?
If I come up with a brilliant idea I would love to start my own company someday. I want to try and work in different field as I get bored easily (hehe), but I hope that in 10 years I can truly call myself a fullstack developer!
6)What is your favorite thing to do for your self-care?
For me going to work out classes or running is the best form of self-care. It makes me so relaxed and gives me a lot of energy!
7)How do you keep yourself calm after a long and bad day? What is your advice on this?
That is actually something I really need to work on. I am someone that gets stressed easily and it is hard for me to relax sometimes. But one thing that has helped me in my studies is to remind myself that it is ok to fail, it doesn’t matter in the long run! What matters is that you have fun and learn.
8)Which movies/tv series/podcasts/books etc. you are recommended for the girls in STEM ?
Oh this is a hard question..! My favorite movie about women in STEM must be “Hidden figures”. It tells the story of some of the amazingly ambitious and talented female mathematicians who worked at NASA during the Space Race. It is so inspiring! Unfortunately, however , I can’t really recommend any podcasts or books, I usually find my inspiration on Instagram. There are so many inspiring females in tech out there!
Thank you so much Emma for the great interview!
